‘Twas the night before Christmas and
You still didn’t make it home.
Working late another week?
Or just a dog after a bone?
The light bill wasn’t paid
So we dressed the tree with popcorn
You started running years ago
And I can tell Mom’s heart is scorn
Last time u said would be the last
Not one promise stands to your name
It must be such a burden to be a Dad
Face it you’re not ready for a change
I don’t get why you’d rather leave us
Is it something we do wrong?
If Christ wasn’t in Christmas
Would u still run away this long?
What do they have at that bar
That we can’t offer u at home?
Does that blonde have your heart
Do u wish u married her instead of mom?
Did you list us naughty or nice?
We’ll gladly take the coal
Heat been off for weeks
Your business trips have gotten old
We must be your family trophy
Showing us off probably gets you laid
Because at home the fridge is empty
It’s been months since mortgage was paid
Mom sold her wedding ring
Just so we could fill our dinner plates
House is getting foreclosed on
But I heard you had a great weekend date
No present seems worth a father’s love
No tree smells like your cologne
No fire warms me up
Like in my Daddy’s arms at home
But seventeen years have now stacked
And I have made a new friend
No more ghost of Christmas past
We can be saved no matter where we been
I know it isn’t your favorite holiday
But Christ was born for you and me
I forgive you and just want to say
I’m a child of God so I now believe
Merry Christmas to all and to all
Please know it’s not about the tree
The ornaments are fun and yes deck the halls
But Christmas means so much more to me
Away in a manger no crib for his bed
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head
He’s here all along and kept Mom strong for the team
So when they ask I always tell them
This is What Christmas Means To B.
